Shakia was born in October during the season of autumn. Autumn marks the transition from summer to winter, and during this season, leaves change colour and fall from trees. Keke, as she was known, expressed a preference for the autumn season. The weather conditions were optimal for outdoor activities. She valued the natural environment and, from a young age, enjoyed gathering a variety of colourful fallen leaves.
Throughout Keke’s life, she enjoyed attending various events, such as outdoor concerts, bar-b-que contests, and other activities. After moving to Memphis, Keke regularly attended events located in the Mid-town neighborhood where she once lived.
Shakia was born to Michelle Strand as an only child. After her mother Michelle married James Key, Keke proudly welcomed several bonus siblings named: Shinard, Armon, Jyoung, Shawn, James, Sheena, Kristina, and Shenila.
Accepting Christ as her Lord and Savior early in life, Keke was baptized at Messiah Baptist Church. She received her education in the East Orange Public Schools System.
Following a significant health challenge, Shakia passed away on July 9, 2025, at Graceland Health Center in Memphis, Tennessee.
