Sarah Johnson, 85, of Memphis TN, departed this life on Tuesday, May 9, 2023, at Regional One Medical Center. Visitation for Mrs. Johnson will be May 19, 2023, from 10-11 AM. Funeral service Saturday, May 19 2023, at 11:00 AM., Both services will be held at Superior Funeral Home Hollywood Chapel, 38108. Sarah Johnson was born March 10, 1938 in Charleston, South Carolina to Louisa Hutchinson. She accepted Christ at an early age and was a faithful member of the United Methodist Church. She was number 4 of 11 siblings. She grew up in Anniston Alabama where she attended public schools. Upon graduation from Cobb Avenue High School as valedictorian of her class, she attended Clark College in Atlanta, Georgia. She later married the love of her Ned Howard Johnson Sr. They had 4 beautiful children, Geneva Louise, Ned Howard Jr.,Yvonne Elizabeth & Karen Yvette. Mrs. Johnson moved to Greenville, Mississippi in 1964. She was a black women who was very active on behalf of her race and her community. In 1973 she was the first black elected official in the city of Greenville. She held several administrative positions in local government.
