Cheryl Diane Newberry was born on November 1, 1958, in Memphis, TN to Sammie Lee Hines and Joe Willie Brown. She accepted Christ at a young age and was a member of Free Spirit Baptist Church until she relocated to St. Paul, MN to live with her daughter. She returned to Memphis, TN to care for her mother and transitioned to her heavenly home on February 1, 2026.
Cheryl is survived by her cherished daughter, LaTeska Newberry. LaTeska was not only the center of Cheryl’s world, bringing immense joy and light into her life, but she also provided unwavering love and care during Cheryl’s final days. The deep bond they shared was evident in the devoted manner with which LaTeska attended to her mother, ensuring comfort and support throughout her journey.
Cheryl leaves to celebrate her life and cherish many fond memories; LaTeska’s father, Richard Newberry; her mother, Sammie Lee Hines; her father, Joe Willie Brown who preceded her in death; one brother, Ivory Louis Hayes; three sisters, Frances Elizabeth Mull who preceded her in death; Landora Harris Brown (Lewis), Dorothy Jean Boyd of Plano, TX (Eddie); one uncle, Eugene Faulkner who preceded her in death; three aunts, Sela Mae Thomas, Elizabeth Hayes, and Eula Mae Jackson who all preceded her in death; five nephews, Marti’ Harrison who preceded her in death, Mario Harris (LaCreisa), James Malone Jr. (Keora), Terence Mull, and Delvin Mull (Tyra); five nieces, Marquette Cathey (Vernon), LaKendra Mull, Roshundra Mull, Markeshia Harris, LaKeta Crutcher (Justin); a host of great-nephews, great- nieces, cousins, relatives, and friends; and her two fur babies, Kells who preceded her in death and Bruno.
