Raymond L. Hooks Sr.

Raymond L. Hooks Sr., a World War II veteran, U.S. Postal Service employee and avid photographer, died July 19 at age 92. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 63 years, Margie Lewis Hooks.

A devoted Christian, Mr. Hooks also was actively involved with his late brother, Rev. Ben Hooks, and other family members in various civil rights activities. He served in the U.S. Army for four years and retired from the postal service after 42 years of service.

Mr. Hooks was a committed member of several church congregations including Greater Middle Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and trustee for more than 37 years. He also was a Mason and a lifetime member of the NAACP.

Survivors include daughters Karran E.H. Creque of Chicago, Denise R. Hooks of Memphis and Vikki R. H. Singleton of Sumter, S.C.; a son, Raymond Hooks Jr. of Memphis; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Graveside services was at 11 a.m. July 26 at West Tennessee Veterans Cemetery.
